Viglen Cohaero, the Managed Learning Environment from Viglen, that's a portal to a galaxy of information and resources.
Viglen Cohaero is a Managed Learning Environment (MLE); it is a means of bringing together all of your systems and learning resources in a way not previously possible. It allows for unparalleled levels of system interoperability and gives access to multiple systems and learning resources with only a single logon required. Put simply, it is the glue that joins together the wealth of learning and network resources available to users.

Making Sense of IT
As networks become more complex, and the availability of learning systems and resources available to schools increase, simplifying and controlling access to all of these systems and resources is a major challenge for schools, particularly with regard to developing users.

Viglen Cohaero has been specifically designed to bring together and distill often rather disperate sources of information. The Viglen Cohaero personalised user interface allows each user to navigate all of the available resources without the need for multiple logons. Resources are made available to users from within the school or from anywhere in the world, at any time, with the appropriate Internet connection.

 The school Management Information System (MIS) e.g. Capita SIMS, Facility CMIS etc. becomes the hub of the MLE. The MIS contains all of the information about the school population; personal information, course and class membership. Using the data, created at this single point of entry, minimises the management overheads for all the other component parts of the MLE and enables access to them in a targeted and personalised way. For example, by extracting data from the MIS system, the Viglen Learning Platform (VLP) can be populated automatically with users and a hierarchical structure.

Cohaero can work at local community, LA or regional level. It delivers enhanced learning opportunities and saves time in schools through the use of better-managed data, information and knowledge.

Based on the SharePoint Portal Server 2007 and the Windows SharePoint Services platform, Cohaero delivers relevant information and services seamlessly to pupils and teachers.

The Viglen Learning Platform (VLP), integrated into the portal via Windows SharePoint web parts, delivers a virtual learning platform enabling teachers to create lessons, manage classes and perform curriculum assessment electronically online and offline. Students can participate in lessons and complete assignments online via the platform, both from home or at school.

Microsoft Exchange 2003 can be used to provide e-mail services and personal information management including calendaring, task lists and other communication tools. Access to Microsoft Exchange is supported via a Web browser through Outlook Web Access. It’s functionality is the same as the full Outlook but is available anywhere, anytime.

This solution addresses some of the issues associated with communication between parents and teachers regarding their child's learning.
