Following established HPC deployment Viglen win PC contract at University of East Anglia
Following their recent successful deployment of an HPC cluster for the University, Viglen won a rigorous tendering process to supply up to 1000 desktops and notebooks in each year of the contract starting on 1st January 2011. The contract will run until 31st December 2013 with a possible extension to the end of 2014.
The University wanted to minimise total cost of ownership whilst providing a high level of service to end users. Viglen showed strong evidence of a stable product line and cost effective upgrade and service management options. In addition, Viglen were able to satisfy the Universities requirement for sustainable solutions with energy saving configurations and disposal of redundant systems and packaging in line with WEE regulations. Viglen’s eco-friendly blue boxes will be used in the deployment of PC’s to reduce waste.
Viglen were invited to bid, along with other suppliers via the National Desktop and Notebook Agreement (NDNA). Recently awarded the number one spot in Lot 3, One-Stop Shop (Desktops and Notebooks) of the NDNA, Viglen were judged to offer best overall value and highest standards of service. This prestigious position is further recognition of Viglen’s pedigree in the IT service providers market and allows NDNA members to choose whether to purchase desktops and notebooks from Viglen with or without additional tendering.
In July 2010 Viglen were selected to partner with the University of East Anglia in the provision of a High Performance Computing Cluster Facility. The two phases of the two year contact are worth a total of approximately £750,000 and were awarded under the National Server and Storage Agreement (NSSA).
