Viglen WINS two Prestigious Hitachi Data Systems Awards

At the Hitachi Data Systems annual Partner Day, Viglen was awarded Hitachi Data Systems’ UK Most High-Profile Win of FY08 for a solution deployed at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

As part of an ongoing commitment to preserving and disseminating the world’s cultural heritage, the V&A has been working on a project to bring its collection online. The website and its eight subsidiary sites currently hold 50,000 images and receive four million hits every month, but the museum wanted to increase both its image library and its online audience.

The V&A worked with Viglen to deploy two Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 1000 systems, each equipped with 60TB of capacity. One was installed at the museum’s main site in Kensington, while the other was placed in its secondary site a few miles away.

The museum’s intention when looking for its new DAM storage platform was to provide capacity for the next three years, with scalability for the next five. The advanced scalability of the Hitachi solution with up to 200TB of potential capacity provides the V&A with the scalability to cope with data growth for at least seven years.

Viglen was also awarded Hitachi Data Systems’ Best UK Case Study of FY08 for the joint case studies generated with the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Library of Scotland, both of which generated a great amount of coverage and visibility for both partners.

“I’m delighted that Viglen have been recognised by Hitachi Data Systems UK with both awards. They are a reflection of Viglen’s expertise in providing the public sector with leading data storage solutions. In both instances our dedicated storage division were able to devise solutions for these customers that not only met there complex set of requirements but that are also highly scalable for the future. Viglen looks forward to working with Hitachi Data Systems in the future to continue offering our customers industry leading data storage”
