Achieving Best Value

At Viglen, we believe in delivering best value; a combination of cost-effective pricing and total service focus. Our track record in delivering long-run project support is clearly defined, and underlines our ability to work hand-in-hand with government agencies at all levels to forge productive and enduring partnerships.

Viglen's pricing is always keen because we understand that there’s more to Best Value. We do not claim to offer best price; only the best value. Some of that value is in the business relationship. e.g. we provide on-line web-based order tracking so customers can check on the progress of their order.

Whether for government, local authorities or NHS clients, Viglen’s understanding of the increasing application of IT and online services in the public sector means it has unique insight into the support levels required.

Customer IT departments can be provided with priority access to Viglen’s Technical Support department.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Viglen is building relationships across business to ensure that an ever-greater number of Viglen PCs and servers can be refitted and reused, or ecologically decommissioned with utmost consideration for the world around us. We now offer the complete recycling toolkit by recognising the role that responsible disposal needs to play in the life cycle of our products.

Working in close collaboration with PASA (The Purchasing and Supplies Agency) we are establishing a centre of excellence in environmental-friendly planning and supply, enabling our public sector clients to meet rigorous new ‘green’ targets.

We have worked determinedly to ensure that 100% of our hardware packaging is fully recyclable, taking great strides towards establishing a centre of excellence in environmentally-friendly planning and supply, enabling our public sector clients to meet their rigorous new 'green' targets.

Ambitious Targets

Since July 2000, all redundant non-domestic PCs are treated as hazardous waste. PC batteries, non bio-degradable plastics, PCBs, precious metals, copper and aluminium need to be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner.

New legislation, which will apply equally to the public and private sectors, is moving ahead. The European Commission has agreed wording to its WEEE (Waste, Electronic and Electrical Equipment) Directive which sets ambitious targets for the recycling of redundant technology.

To help its public sector partners stay ahead of the curve, Viglen has implemented a series of innovations and is building disposal and recycling services into acquisition contracts, urging clients to actively consider the implications of IT redundancy.

Viglen has forged a partnership with Salisbury-based IT recycling specialist Recommit to provide auditable, standardised disposal or re-use. Recommit will recondition and reuse hardware of Pentium 2 quality and above, disassembling older machines into components for recycling, with data removed to Ministry of Defence standards.

Complete Solutions and Managed Services

Viglen is wholly expert at understanding the particular needs of large public sector organisations; of data security, environmental compliance and the need for structural integrity, cost-effective scalability and round-the-clock reliability.

Viglen has developed a tier of tailor-made support packages in modular form, enabling our clients to select the combination of training and telephone-based or on-site analyst services to suit them best — up to and including full Managed Services contracts with 24/7 support from named individuals.

Where technology allows, we are also able to offer remote access assistance, dialling-in to networks to troubleshoot while providing telephone support. In emergency situations, full engineer callout services are available based on a set of pre-agreed fault levels.

We employ staff with unrivalled Microsoft licensing expertise and experience and are the only OEM with Microsoft Education Large Account Reseller status giving our public sector customers unique access to Microsoft knowledge.

By providing a highly qualified pre-sales support team to advise on network design and implementation, our customers can relax in the knowledge that the system they order meets their requirements exactly. Viglen engineers are available to provide installation services and on-site configuration. Large networks can even be configured prior to shipment where necessary and customer acceptance tests can take place either at Viglen or at the customer site.

Extending Green Services Still Further

Viglen’s environmental credentials have been recognised on several levels — most notably in our award-winning all-corrugated packaging which is completely EPS-free and can be removed from site by Viglen following installation. We have undertaken other initiatives, from energy-saving changes in the fabrication process to waste recycling in our purpose-built assembly plant and paper recycling in all our offices.

We have also invested in our own internal CE Marking laboratory to ensure total compliance with the latest European Directives on product emissions and safety. Viglen hardware is not only well-built and reliable — it is also fully compliant.

Viglen has its own G-TEM laboratory so finds it easy to ensure new servers satisfy all legislation for safety and electronic noise. Certification is sought for all major server operating systems. Our servers are built from non-proprietary components ensuring ease of configuration and maintenance. Many of the servers are “pure” Intel including motherboard, PSU and chassis.
