PRESS RELEASE: Viglen’s Academy success continues

Following a string of Academy wins in the past year, leading British IT company Viglen has secured a contract with Thetford Academy worth £1.6m. Viglen will provide ICT equipment and services over the next 5 years for the Norfolk-based Academy and play a lead role in creating a transformational learning experience for all students.
Viglen, whose major shareholder is Lord Sugar, will provide ICT solutions for the new Academy building which will see all its students brought onto one single site from September 2013. The project, which is government-funded, also comprises the ICT contract awarded to Viglen.
The Academy’s vision is to create an innovative model that allows ICT resources to become widely embedded in subject teaching and to move away from the traditional model of having ICT facilities in dedicated ICT suites only. Through a wide range of tools, including the Viglen Cohaero portal that facilitates engagement amongst students, teachers and parents, Viglen will support the Academy’s intention of becoming an important contributor to Thetford’s regeneration as a ‘Town for Learning’ by providing access to lifelong learning opportunities, and enabling the Academy to extend learning programmes into the local community.
With the new Viglen contract, the Academy, which first opened its doors in September 2010 and specialises in English and mathematics, will deliver a robust, scalable and flexible ICT platform that provides users with an exciting and motivational learning environment.

“We are delighted to have entered into this partnership with Viglen who have an excellent track record in delivery of ICT to the education sector. We want our new building to help transform education in the town and Viglen demonstrated to us they have the skills, experience and commitment to ensure the teachers and pupils in Thetford will have the very best ICT equipment when our new building opens in September 2013.”

“We are thrilled to have secured a contract with Thetford Academy. This is an exciting project with a fantastic vision and we look forward to transforming the ICT experience for students and staff alike. This follows on from several other Academy contract wins in the past year and we hope that the success will continue as people see the benefits of our work.”
