ScaleMP
The Viglen-ScaleMP versatile Symmetric Multi Processor (vSMP) architecture aggregates multiple x86 systems into a single virtual x86 system, delivering an industry-standard, high-end SMP computer. Using software to replace custom hardware and components, Viglen offers a new, revolutionary computing paradigm.
Viglen’s solutions provide significant benefits throughout the compute chain, allowing customers to:
- AGGREGATE
several systems to create large x86 systems
- SCALE
application compute, memory and I/O resources in a near linear fashion resulting in top performance
- SIMPLIFY
system installation and ongoing management by reducing the total number of systems
- SAVE
money by leveraging standard components to deliver SMP at cluster prices
The solution can be dynamically re-provisioned, providing flexibility by allowing users or the job scheduler to dynamically boot the system up in SMP mode when large jobs are requested, and run as normal compute nodes when there are no large memory requirements1.
1Dynamic re-provisioning of the SMP/Standard mode is achievable through pxe/ipmi controlled by a Viglen headnode with Rocks+
Key Features
vSMP Foundation Key Advantages
The next generation of affordable high-end SMP systems possible for computer manufacturers and end users. High-end SMPs can be created without investing tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in proprietary R&D, and losing valuable time to market.
ScaleMP spec sheet
ScaleMP enables the creation of very affordable midrange to high-end SMP computers using commodity x86 server boards and standard interconnects that deliver the lowest overall Total Cost of Ownership by:
- Run any type of HPC applications providing best of breed performance for both cluster and SMP applications
- Use the latest generation of chips and interconnects to provide best performance at volume pricing
- Maintain cost benefits of Clusters, minimizing the use of custom hardware and components
